Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson

This is a good day, because My Old Kentucky Blog has presented me/us with new music from Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson.

The new songs are sounding great and I'm really hoping to hear a new full length album this year...and hopefully a tour. I'll be prepared this time though, now that I've become a fan and know what to expect.

The session features 3 new songs ("Boat" was featured in his Daytrotter sessions) and a cover of "(Sittin' on ) The Dock of the Bay."

You can download the new tracks here. As I stated, the songs are sounding great...and are as charmingly raw and sloppy as you might expect if you've been enjoying his Daytrotter sessions, and especially if you've seen him live.

Check them out!

Suspiciously Similar #3

Green Day announced today, their plans to release their 8th studio album in May. The album is entitled 21st Century Breakdown. I'm actually looking forward to it. If you've been paying attention, you know that I love Green Day and know that they were one of the bands that changed my life and really got me interested in music.

When American Idiot came out, I was sad that it was filled with Liberal rhetoric, and thus did not purchase it for a couple years when I finally found it used for $2.95. I have since grown to really like the album and look past said rhetoric. It is, after all, a form of punk music, and what is punk music if not often times political & rebellious.

I'm still hoping Green Day will release an album of Sex Pistols and early Clash-style punk, but I doubt the new release will sound like that. In my opinion, I think it would be quite "punk rock" for Green Day to follow up their massively huge American Idiot with some raw punk that would make the teenagers scratch their heads.

Anyway, the point of this post is to point out the cover art for the new Green Day. It is quite possible that Banksy, the world famous graffiti-ist who was responsible for Think Tank (below) is also responsible for 21st Century Breakdown. This has not yet been confirmed. If it isn't the work of Banksy...then this is "suspiciously similar" indeed.

Enjoy.

Note: the picture at the header features nearly identical album covers by Fountains of Wayne and The Flamingoes. The Flamingoes album was released only TWO WEEKS before Fountains of Wayne hit it "big" with their self-titled album.

An Indie Rock Alphabet Book

I came across this today and it made me smile. An Indie Rock Alphabet Book. Might be kind of fun to own...and teach your kids about some of your favorite bands. But oddly enough, you don't just get a preview of it online; you can view every page of it. It can be purchased here.

Here are some of my favorites:

A Positive Rage

I wish being friends with a band on Facebook & Myspace would help you get info faster because it's coming straight from the band. However, I received this info from PFM.

I'm excited as hell. The Hold Steady are the greatest rock band and hands down greatest live band going right now.

April 7 will see the release of A Positive Rage which is a two disc set containing a live disc and a documentary DVD.

Essential package for anyone who loves great, straight forward rock music. It will feature the 3 bonus tracks contained on special editions of Stay Positive, as well as two previously unreleased songs, "Spectres" & "40 Bucks".

No crying about only 3 songs from Almost Killed Me. It's live Hold Steady and that's all that matters! Besides, there is only one song from Separation Sunday.
