Suspiciously Similar #1

Today, after class, I went to Cheapo to pick up the latest John Frusciante solo album. While I was there, I flipped through their "clearance" CDs and found a very cheap copy of Frank Black's first solo album. I also found a copy of Walt Mink's El Producto. I already am the owner of that album, but thought I'd pick it up and give it away to someone. That is what a nice guy I am.

Well, it wasn't until I was driving home that I noticed the similarities in the album covers. Thought it was a little suspicious. I'm not saying one was inspired by the other, but it got me thinking of other album covers that are similar...and then I thought up the idea for this segment.

In this segment, I'll post the covers in question side by side, with the album which was released FIRST, on the left hand side.

Frank Black '93 & El Producto '96

Whip-Smart '94 & Hello '96

Now, this one doesn't appear to be blatant, but I'm sure you can see what I'm seeing. A star and a sphereical shape, with a face in the middle. The sphere and star are opposites, but it still made me do a double take when I was at Cheapo this past weekend.

Blackberry Belle '03 & Follow the Lights EP '07

Rip It Off 10/1/02 & Steal This Album! 11/26/02
Ok, someone has some explaining to do here. Both covers have a black background...they both feature a CD-R with the artist name and album title written with a sharpie, and both have similar titles. AND they were released less than two months apart.

This was fun. Feel free to leave comments with your thoughts. If you can think of any that I can feature in the next or future segments, you can leave them in the comments, or feel free to email me with ideas at everlong_song@yahoo.com

Note: the picture at the header features nearly identical album covers by Fountains of Wayne and The Flamingoes. The Flamingoes album was released only TWO WEEKS before Fountains of Wayne hit it "big" with their self-titled album.

Very well done!

I forgot about Liz Phair, I used to think she was cute back in the day, of course that was before she married her 8th husband and had 3 kids...
